After being promoted to the 3rd division, Preußen Münster lost 1:3 to Fortuna Köln in the Regionalliga West. Coach Sascha Hildmann could still smile.
After promotion to the 3rd League, SC Preußen Münster only has one more exhibition match in the Regionalliga West to go. In the home match against Fortuna Cologne, there was a deserved 1:3 defeat, but the fans of the Prussians could cope with it well.
The encounter did not take a good direction for Preußen Münster from the start. Even the kickoff had to be postponed by half an hour, much to the annoyance of many fans.
Fortuna Cologne coach Markus von Ahlen explained and apologized afterwards to the Preußen officials and the 11,769 fans in the stadium for the delay: “Sorry that we were so late. It felt like our bus driver’s sat nav found every traffic jam in NRW. Maybe the beer and sausage baths were happy about higher sales figures.”
And the game did not go to Münster’s liking either. Although Münster first equalized in the person of Andrew Wooten (18th) after taking the lead through Sascha Marquet (13th), it then conceded two more goals in the course of the game through Timo Hölscher (37th) and again Marquet (69th) and lost the home match.
With the win, Fortuna Cologne jumped up one place in the standings for the time being. With 54 points, the Cologne team is now in fourth place, two points ahead of SV Rödinghausen, who will face Alemannia Aachen this matchday.
Von Ahlen was pleased with the win, but was keen to emphasize one thing: “It was a great game with chances on both sides. At the beginning of the second half, luck was on our side, which is what you need with such a tough opponent. And now I think it’s the moment to congratulate all of Preußen Münster on their promotion and wish them all the best in the 3rd division. “
During the break, I told the guys that it doesn’t work like that.
Sascha Hildmann
Preußen promotion coach Sascha Hildmann expressed his gratitude and spoke about the game with a smile on his lips despite the defeat: “We saw two very good teams, mine was unfortunately not in the game as usual in half one. We lacked the duel toughness and Fortuna Cologne was very strong.”
After the break, Münster then got into the game better, but still failed to score another goal to maintain their streak of 16 consecutive unbeaten games. The last time Preußen lost was 0:1 against Wuppertaler SV on November 12.
Nevertheless, Hildmann was satisfied with the second 45 minutes: “In the break, I told the guys that it doesn’t work like that. We then played the way we wanted to after the break. Then we get the 1:3. I think it was such a day, we could have played for hours without scoring a goal.”
And so, with no further questions for the coach, ended a day that, despite defeat, was all about promotion to the 3rd division. Preußen Münster fans celebrated their team frenetically for minutes despite the defeat.
