No third division team is represented in the quarter-finals of the Westphalia Cup and all the regional league clubs had to pull out.
In the Westphalia Cup, the death of the favourites continues. No club from the 3rd Division or the Regionalliga is in the quarter-finals. SV Lippstadt had already been knocked out in the first round – but then there was also the regional league duel with SV Rödinghausen. A very difficult task.
In the second round, Rot Weiss Ahlen lost to Westfalenliga 1 leaders Erkenschwick on penalties. SC Verl, the only third division team, lost 3-1 at Delbrücker SC, SC Wiedenbrück lost at Spielverein Westfalia Soest. And SG Wattenscheid had no chance at SC Preußen Münster – the final score was 0:4.
There were now only three representatives from the Regionalliga West in the round of sixteen. SC Preußen Münster, Kaan-Marienborn and SV Rödinghausen. And in the end, the trio was eliminated completely. Spvgg Erkenschwick sent Münster home with a defeat. As against Ahlen, the Westfalenliga leaders won on penalties.
Kaan-Marienborn went down 0:3 at Oberliga side Delbrücker SC. Patrick Heisinger, Damian Biniek, and Lennard Rolf scored for the lower-ranked club in the quarter-finals. The Westfalenliga team RSV Meinerzhagen, who beat SV Rödinghausen 2-1, is also in the quarter-finals. There have not been so many surprises for years.
Therefore, it is clear: Now the upper league teams have the best chances to enter the DFB Cup. In the direct duels, the home teams won on Wednesday evening. ASC 09 Dortmund defeated SF Lotte 2-1, FC Gütersloh, fourth in the Oberliga Westfalen, gave top of the Oberliga Westfalia Rhynern no chance in a 3-0 win.
