A crazy transfer rumor about RWO director Moritz Stoppelkamp circulated on social media last weekend. Now RWO manager Patrick Bauder is speaking out.
Last weekend was not a successful one for Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in sporting terms. RWO lost 2-0 to the U21 team of 1. FC Köln, which was strengthened with many young professionals. Oberhausen captain Sven Kreyer was shown a red card and Moritz Stoppelkamp missed a penalty.
What annoyed RWO manager Patrick Bauder even more after the weekend than the defeat against Cologne were rumors about Stoppelkamp. On Facebook, a crazy speculation appeared on an MSV Duisburg fan page, which caused quite a stir in the red and white environment. The content of the rumor: Moritz Stoppelkamp is said to have asked the Oberhausen management to terminate his contract early so that he can return to MSV Duisburg on January 1, 2024.
“This rumor is absolute fake news. There is absolutely nothing to it. We don’t need to say any more about it,” Bauder emphasized to RS.
Stoppelkamp expressed similar sentiments to our editorial team: “I’ve felt right at home at RWO from day one. The team, the coaching staff, the people in charge – everyone has given me a great welcome and I’m having a lot of fun here. I don’t know why such things are made up.”
Rot-Weiß Oberhausen: Catch-up match in Mönchengladbach canceled again
The 36-year-old Stoppelkamp did not receive a new contract offer last summer after six years at MSV Duisburg and moved to Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. From a sporting point of view, the move proved to be a complete success for both sides. In 16 competitive matches, Stoppelkamp scored ten goals for coach Jörn Nowak’s team and set up a further five goals.
RWO are in the quarter-finals of the Lower Rhine Cup and are ten points behind league leaders 1. FC Bocholt in the Regionalliga. However, RWO could reduce this gap to seven points with a win in the catch-up match at Borussia Mönchengladbach II. The match was actually supposed to be made up on Tuesday (November 14, 2023). “We have just been informed that the game has been canceled again due to the rain,” reported Bauder.
