There was bitter news for two third division clubs on Friday, October 28. For Viktoria Köln regarding an injury, for Waldhof Mannheim regarding a result.
Shock for FC Viktoria Köln! The third-division club will have to do without top performer Bryan Henning for at least half a year.
“Boy, come back healthy! Bryan Henning is out for several months with a serious knee injury, which he suffered on Wednesday during Viktoria’s 4-0 victory in the Bitburger Cup at Landesligist TuS Mondorf,” the Cologne official said.
“This is of course very bitter. Bryan is a very important player in our squad. We will definitely miss him,” Viktoria’s sports director Stephan Küsters added to Forecasting.
The midfielder, who came to Höhenberg from Eintracht Braunschwieg in the summer and has been in Viktoria’s starting eleven in all of the team’s 3rd division games so far this season, underwent surgery on the anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus of his left knee at Cologne’s MediaPark Klinik on Friday.
We have to keep eating the dirt until the corner is turned. Under no circumstances must we put our heads down. Waldhof Mannheim must not be in a relegation spot at this point, but we are there. Now it’s a matter of pooling all our strengths.
Rüdiger Rehm
Meanwhile, the coach has been discussed more than ever at SV Waldhof Mannheim since Friday. Because after the 0:3 at the promoted Spielvereinigung Unterhaching, the Waldhöfer slipped to a relegation place. As a reminder, Mannheim parted ways with Christian Neidhart before the season and hired Rehm to attack the top – in the best case, to be promoted. The Baden-Württemberger are miles away from this goal.
The ailing Rehm revealed to “Magenta Sport” what he told his charges in the team circle after the 3-0 defeat in Unterhaching. Rehm: “I told the guys that we have a phase right now that is unbelievable. We’re not rewarding ourselves, but punishing ourselves. That’s when we throw up as a team. We have to keep eating the dirt until the corner is turned. Under no circumstances must we put our heads down. Waldhof Mannheim should not be in a relegation spot at this point, but we are. Now it’s a matter of pooling all our strengths.”
Next Sunday will see the basement duel of two traditional clubs: SV Waldhof Mannheim against MSV Duisburg. The question remains as to whether Rüdiger Rehm will still be on the sidelines for the hosts then.
