Cup clash between RWE and BVB – ticket prices are sky high

Rot-Weiss Essen will host Borussia Dortmund on August 18 in the first round of the DFB Cup. Ticket prices have now been announced. Fans will have to dig deep into their pockets.

The anniversary match against Scottish first division club Hibernian FC in Edinburgh has been played, and now the next highlight of the season is the season opener against 1860 Munich on August 1. A little more than two weeks later, it’s already time for the cup clash against BVB: Rot-Weiss Essen will host Borussia Dortmund on August 18 in the first round of the DFB Cup. Kick-off is at 8:45 p.m. at Hafenstraße. Tickets will be available soon. Season ticket holders can secure their seats starting this Friday (July 11) at 10 a.m. This will be followed by the sales phase for club members. If tickets are still available, they will go on general sale. Season ticket holders can log in with their usual access data to find their reserved ticket with exactly the same block, row, and seat as their season ticket under “My reserved tickets.” The cup ticket will remain blocked until July 21 (6 p.m.). After that, the reservation will expire. In the past third division season, day tickets cost €34, €29, €24, and €14 (categories 1 to 4). Depending on the category, this represents a surcharge of €11, €10, €9, and €3.

From the club’s point of view, a surcharge is understandable given the caliber of the opponent coming to Hafenstraße on August 18. But it is also a taste of things to come in the upcoming season. As we all know, (almost) everything is getting more expensive these days – including soccer. Season tickets for the upcoming season are also more expensive than last season. The club recently announced that “day tickets for the new season will cost one euro more for standing room and two euros more for seats.” RWE justified this with increased costs for security personnel and cleaning throughout the stadium, among other things. “The share that RWE pays to public transport companies for shuttle services and free use of public transport with day tickets and season tickets has also increased significantly,” the club announced.

To be fair, it should be mentioned that all third division clubs are increasing their season ticket prices. Rot-Weiss Essen’s prices are still in the middle of the 3rd division. The most expensive club is 1860 Munich, while FC Ingolstadt is at the bottom of the league price comparison (apart from second teams). RWE said: “In view of the outstanding support and loyalty of our fans, Rot-Weiss Essen is trying to keep day ticket and season ticket prices as stable as possible. However, sharp increases in matchday organization costs in the past and, with great foresight, in the future make an adjustment unavoidable.”
