Third division side Rot-Weiss Essen missed out on their third friendly win against TSG Hoffenheim U23. This is Christoph Dabrowski’s assessment of the zero number
Rot-Weiss Essen played their third test match of this year’s summer preparations on Sunday. After a 5:0 win over the Essen regional league team SG Schönebeck and a 4:1 victory against ETB Schwarz-Weiß Essen, the team faced off against the second team of TSG Hoffenheim.
RWE had already tested against the Regionalliga-Südwest representatives coached by Vincent Wagner the previous year, when they suffered a clear 1:5 defeat. The new edition ended 0-0 at Bottrop’s Jahnstadion.
Defensively, the team from Essen were stable, but almost nothing went forward. The first and only RWE goal was scored by U19 player Yan Marcos Friessner Montas in the 80th minute. Coach Christoph Dabrowski still has a lot of work to do with the ball
The 46-year-old had an explanation for this, however, and did not want to overrate the test match: “We’re in the main stress week. Hoffenheim are an ambitious regional league team. They have good and talented players. The pitch was not ideal because it was very dull. As a result, neither team had a high passing tempo when playing with the ball. Of course, it was a tough game for the spectators. But we made good meters. It was important that nobody got injured. The squad isn’t ready yet either. We are fully in the process. “
The next main training week awaits us at the training camp. The week will be a bit more intense. We still have a bit of work ahead of us.
Christoph Dabrowski
The summer training camp is on the agenda for Rot-Weiss Essen in the coming week. From Tuesday (July 16) to Sunday (July 21), the third division club will be in Arnhem in the Netherlands. The Dabrowski squad will be looking to fine-tune their skills for the upcoming season, which kicks off with a home match against Alemannia Aachen (date to be determined).
“The next main training week awaits us at the training camp. The week will be a bit more intense. We still have a bit of work ahead of us,” said Dabrowski looking ahead.
