Third division team Rot-Weiss Essen defeated SC Paderborn 3:2 (1:1) in a test match on Saturday. RWE coach Christoph Dabrowski was completely satisfied.
Exactly 33 days after their last competitive match at TSV 1860 Munich (1:1), Rot-Weiss Essen were back in action on Saturday. Although the match against SC Paderborn was not for points, but only a test match, it was nevertheless the first appearance for the Essen team since 14 November. For the guests, it was already the fourth test match in the winter preparation.
After 90 minutes in the “icebox” Hafenstraße, RWE prevailed 3:2 (1:1) against the ambitious second-division team. Felix Götze (36th), test player Tobias Warschewski (65th), with a fantastic lob from over 40 metres, and Aurel Loubongo (85th) scored the goals for the Red-Whites. Sirlord Conteh (31st, 88th) scored twice for Paderborn.
Afterwards, RWE coach Christoph Dabrowski answered the questions of the journalists present:
A sensational goal! He had a good week in training and his goal was outstanding. You have to come up with the idea to do it like that first. I wouldn’t mind us watching him for a while longer – maybe even until the Christmas break.

Christoph Dabrowski on…
the win against Paderborn: “You always like to win, of course, even if it was only a test match. But we won’t overrate the victory either. It was a typical preparation game, for Paderborn it was the last game before their two-week holiday. The boys moved well and did a good job defensively. We used all the players who were fit. It was a good start for us after the first ten days of preparation. The two goals we conceded and Sandro Plechaty’s thigh injury shortly after the start of the second half were annoying. “

The players who were missing from the line-up: “Lawrence Ennali had a tonsil operation and will return to running training on Monday. Ron Berlinski couldn’t move his foot after Thursday’s practice because he took a blow to his foot. It’s a bruise. But I expect him to be back next week. Erolind Krasniqi twisted his ankle in the gym and Meiko Sponsel has a calf muscle injury. There is no exact diagnosis yet. We’ll have to wait and see how long he’ll be out. Simon Engelmann will now return to team training. “
