Third division side Rot-Weiss Essen conceded their first defeat since October at SV Elversberg (0:3). Christoph Dabrowski complained about efficiency.
Turbulent days lie behind Rot-Weiss Essen. After the last-minute away draw against SC Verl (1:1), the club announced an absolute transfer hammer on Tuesday. Daniel Heber, captain of the Essen team, was sold to the second-division club 1. FC Magdeburg for a six-figure sum.
In the first game after Heber’s transfer, head coach Christoph Dabrowski’s team played host to third-league leaders SV Elversberg under floodlights on Friday evening.
Despite a strong first half, the men from Hafenstraße conceded a clear 0:3 (0:0) defeat at Kaiserlinde.
Dabrowski divided the game into two halves after the final whistle: “I saw a good first half from my team. We set out to act courageously. We did that quite well. We were able to create several chances, unfortunately we have to talk about efficiency again. We could not reward ourselves for our efforts. In the second half, Elversberg showed us how to mercilessly take our chances. Because of the second half, Elversberg deserved to win. “
Of course, that also has to do with the quality of the opponent. They ran the ball well and played a lot of short passes. The longer the game lasted, the more difficult it became.

In the first 45 minutes, Essen put in a strong performance and were on the verge of taking the lead. After the tea break, the SVE played themselves into a frenzy and locked RWE in their own half. “Of course, that also has to do with the quality of the opponent. They ran the ball well and played a lot of short passes. The longer the game lasted, the more difficult it became. They scored the goals well, but it was still too easy,” explained the RWE coach.
Derby against MSV Duisburg
Until the next league match, the Red and Whites have more preparation time than usual. The promoted team will not be back in action until 5 February (2 p.m.) – but this game will be a tough one. The derby against MSV Duisburg is on the agenda. The stadium in Essen is already sold out.
