Rot-Weiss Essen are the last team to qualify for the Lower Rhine Cup quarter-finals. The matches will be drawn in the coming week.
The eighth and final quarter-final participant in the Lower Rhine Cup was determined on Tuesday evening:
Rot-Weiss Essen did not show any weakness and confidently won 4:0 (2:0) at Oberliga club SV Straelen. Their progress was never in danger. As the only third-division club, RWE is therefore the big favorite to defend the title.
In June 2023, the team from Essen secured this title for the tenth time. No other team has won the competition so many times. Back then, Rot-Weiss Essen defeated rivals Rot-Weiß Oberhausen 2:0 at home on Hafenstrasse. This encounter is also possible again in the quarter-finals of the current cup season. Because not only RWE, but also RWO qualified for the last eight.
In addition to the Cloverleafs, two other regional league clubs are also represented: current leaders 1. FC Bocholt and promoted SSVg Velbert. The four Oberliga clubs Sportfreunde Baumberg, Ratingen 04/19, KFC Uerdingen and SF Hamborn 07 complete the field of participants.
The pairings for the quarter-finals and semi-finals will be drawn in the coming week. The draw will take place at the offices of the Lower Rhine Football Association on November 8. The event starts at 4 pm.
