Rot-Weiss Essen were the last team to qualify for the Lower Rhine Cup quarter-finals. The fixtures will be drawn next week.
Since Tuesday evening, the eighth and final quarter-finalist in the Lower Rhine Cup has been determined:
Rot-Weiss Essen did not show any weakness and won 4-0 (2-0) at Oberligist SV Straelen. Getting through was never in danger. As the only third division club, RWE is thus the big favorite to defend the title.
In June 2023, the team from Essen secured the title for the tenth time. No other team has won the competition that often. That time, Rot-Weiss Essen defeated their rivals Rot-Weiß Oberhausen 2-0 at their home ground, Hafenstraße. This fixture is possible again in the quarter-finals of the current cup season. Not only RWE, but also RWO qualified for the last eight.
In addition to the cloverleaves, two other regional league teams, the current front-runner 1. FC Bocholt and promoted team SSVg Velbert, are represented. The field of participants is completed by the four regional league teams Sportfreunde Baumberg, Ratingen 04/19, KFC Uerdingen and SF Hamborn 07.
The pairings for the quarter-finals and semi-finals will be drawn next week. The draw will take place at the offices of the Lower Rhine Football Association on November 8. The event will begin at 4 p.m.
Ex-Schalke Schacht will draw the lots
The former Schalke professional Dietmar Schacht has agreed to be the draw fairy. The 61-year-old played 70 competitive games for the miners during his active career between 1989 and 1992 and managed to get Schalke promoted to the Bundesliga in 1991. He was the captain of the team that got promoted.
Wolfgang Jades, chairman of the association’s football committee and cup director, will be responsible for the draw. A live broadcast is planned on the FVN Instagram channel.
