It was an emotional weekend for Schalke 04’s Simon Terodde. After the birth of his daughter, the striker scored a goal and a home win.
The relief at FC Schalke 04 was immense. The second division team had little trouble against VfL Osnabrück and won the six-point game against the bottom-placed team 4-0. (Match report)
The home win was a special occasion for one Schalke player in particular. “It was a very, very emotional game, I think you could see that,” captain Simon Terodde openly admitted in a Sky interview after the game.
The striker had been in hospital the day before the game to witness the birth of his daughter Tilda. It’s no wonder that the father of three had a few tears in his eyes as he celebrated his goal to make it 3-0, greeting the new addition to the family.
“It’s been an emotional few days. Yesterday you’re in the delivery room and today you’re back on the pitch after some really, really difficult weeks,” Terodde gave insights into his emotional world. ‘But yesterday you experience such a feeling of happiness that is indescribable. And then to win here like this…’
And the scorer knew who to thank: “A big compliment to my wife, how she did yesterday. We’re all healthy,” Terodde proudly and happily reported. “Now, with three points, the icing on the cake.”
With these points behind him, the striker can enjoy his family happiness a little more relaxed this weekend and see how the competition reacts in the basement. “That was a competitor for us today. The win was so important because you were able to pull away a bit even after difficult weeks,” emphasized the 35-year-old.
The success against VfL was never really in jeopardy, with Osnabrück looking alarmingly ineffectual. S04 also outfought the Lower Saxony team, as Terodde emphasized: “Of course, people want to see grit and determination, and I think we brought that to the pitch today and that’s why we’re taking a good feeling away with us today.”
