Deal off? Ismaik apparently staying with 1860 Munich

Is there a spectacular turnaround at 1860 Munich? Investor Ismaik apparently does not want to sell his shares in the traditional club after all. At least that is what the “SZ” and other media are reporting.

Controversial investor Hasan Ismaik may not be leaving TSV 1860 Munich after all, according to a report in the Süddeutsche Zeitung. The SZ published a surprising statement from the Jordanian to the newspaper, in which he is quoted as saying, among other things: “I will continue with the club.” The Munich-based third-division soccer club did not initially issue an official statement on the report when asked.

Everything had recently looked as if Ismaik wanted to sell his majority stake in the “Lions” to a Swiss entrepreneur. At least that was what the traditional club itself announced at the beginning of July, causing unexpected jubilation among the majority of fans. However, the deal has now fallen through, as reported by “Münchner Merkur” and “tz.” In the statement at the time, Ismaik himself was even quoted as saying, “I am very happy to pass the baton to someone who can help the club in this way.” The now-replaced TSV president Robert Reisinger said the following day at the annual general meeting that Ismaik was “no longer relevant” to the Munich club. But now Ismaik, who joined the club in 2011 and shaped almost a decade and a half of chaos and controversy, is apparently staying after all. “All I want to say to the fans of 1860 is that Reisinger and Karl Christian Bay lied to everyone,” he said in a message to the “SZ.” Bay was vice president of the “Lions” until recently.
