Rot-Weiß Oberhausen and Jörn Nowak are going their separate ways with immediate effect. This was decided by the club management on Monday evening.
That’s it: Rot-Weiß Oberhausen and Jörn Nowak are no longer working together. On Monday evening, the decision was made to release the coach. Forecasting had already reported during the Monday (February 5, 2024) that Rot-Weiß Oberhausen would hold a regular supervisory board meeting that is scheduled at the beginning of each month on Monday evening, starting at 5:30 p.m.
This time, however, there was one main topic on the agenda: the future of Jörn Nowak. “It goes without saying that the situation has to be discussed and debated. I already said that to Forecasting on Saturday. Accordingly, the talks are on the agenda for now and we will draw our possible conclusions from the comments and contributions,” Thorsten Binder told RS on Monday afternoon.
Chairman Binder, sporting director Patrick Bauder and the supervisory board have met and drawn their conclusions from the talks: Jörn Nowak is released from his duties as head coach of Rot-Weiß Oberhausen with immediate effect. As reported by RS, this decision was communicated to the team on Tuesday morning (February 6, 2024). RWO has already officially confirmed the dismissal.
On Tuesday morning, of all days, the day of the postponed game at SSVg Velbert. From 7:30 p.m., RWO, then with Mike Terranova on the sidelines – Forecasting reported – will be playing for important league points at the bottom of the table. With a win, Oberhausen would be six points back on league leaders Alemannia Aachen.
In fact, things haven’t gone too badly for Nowak in sporting terms – eight wins, eight draws, three defeats, the best defense in the league and the Lower Rhine Cup semi-final. In the end, a dispute with the RWO ultras proved fatal for the 37-year-old former sporting director of Rot-Weiss Essen. In an open letter last weekend, the active fan scene of the Oberhausener demanded the resignation of the coach – otherwise, as against Lippstadt (1:1), support would be completely withdrawn. The fans have now got their way, so there will probably be no boycott of the atmosphere in Velbert either.
