Rot-Weiß Oberhausen and Jörn Nowak are going their separate ways with immediate effect. The decision was made on Monday evening.
That’s it: Rot-Weiß Oberhausen and Jörn Nowak are no longer working together. On Monday evening, the decision was made to let the coach go. Forecasting had already reported during Monday (February 5, 2024) that Rot-Weiß Oberhausen would hold a regular supervisory board meeting in the evening – from 5.30 p.m. – which is scheduled at the beginning of each month.
This time, however, there was one main topic on the agenda: the future of Jörn Nowak. “It goes without saying that the situation needs to be discussed and debated. I already said that to Forecasting on Saturday. Accordingly, the talks are now on the agenda and we will draw our possible conclusions from the comments and contributions,” Thorsten Binder told RS on Monday afternoon.
CEO Binder, head of sport Patrick Bauder and the supervisory board have met and drawn their conclusions from the talks: Jörn Nowak will be relieved of his duties as head coach of Rot-Weiß Oberhausen with immediate effect. RS learned that this decision was communicated to the team on Tuesday morning (February 6, 2024). RWO has already officially confirmed the dismissal
On Tuesday morning of all days, the day of the catch-up match at SSVg Velbert. From 7.30 pm, RWO, then with Mike Terranova on the sidelines – Forecasting reported – will be looking for important league points at the bottom of the table. A win would bring Oberhausen back to within six points of league leaders Alemannia Aachen
In general, things didn’t go too badly under Nowak – eight wins, eight draws, three defeats, the best defense in the league and the Lower Rhine Cup semi-final. The 37-year-old former sporting director of Rot-Weiss Essen was ultimately undone by a dispute with the RWO ultras. The active fan scene in Oberhausen demanded the coach’s resignation in an open letter last weekend – otherwise the support would be stopped completely, as it was against Lippstadt (1:1). The fans now have their way, so there will probably be no boycott in Velbert either
