FC Schalke 04 will sell its top talent Assan Ouédraogo to RB Leipzig. A loan deal is not planned. The details of the transfer.
The poker for Schalke’s jewel Assan Ouédraogo has been decided. The FC Schalke 04 super talent will move to Champions League participant RB Leipzig this summer. Sky first reported on the midfielder’s transfer. According to the report, Ouédraogo has decided to join RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga. He will receive a contract with the East German club until 2029.
RB Leipzig want to activate the release clause in Ouédraogo’s contract and pay the Royal Blues around ten million euros. Bitter news for Schalke: as things stand, the hoped-for loan deal will not happen. Ouédraogo is to be given the chance to prove himself in Leipzig immediately. Coach Marco Rose will put him under the microscope during the summer preparations. Should the sporting authorities decide that Ouédraogo is not yet ready for the Bundesliga, Schalke could still hope for a loan deal.
FC Schalke will pay around ten million euros for Assan Ouédraogo
Ouedraogo’s contract with FC Schalke 04 runs until June 30, 2027 and his release clause must be activated by mid-June. It was therefore to be expected that a decision on his future would be made in the next few days. In addition to RB Leipzig, Eintracht Frankfurt and Premier League clubs Newcastle United and Chelsea FC had also been interested in signing the Schalke player. His choice has now fallen on RB Leipzig.
The aim of the sporting management around sporting director Marc Wilmots and squad planner Ben Manga was and is to loan Ouédraogo directly back to Gelsenkirchen after a sale. “I think it would be good for Assan’s development if we could loan him out for another year or two,” Wilmots recently explained in the WAZ interview. “It’s no secret that we would like to see him at Schalke for longer.”
This plan would probably have been easier to realize with FC Bayern. However, Ouédraogo’s father revealed a few days ago that the record champions had refrained from a transfer. “Bayern have now informed us openly and honestly that they cannot afford to transfer Assan this summer for various reasons.”
FC Schalke 04 wants to invest part of the transfer fee in the squad
The talented Schalke midfielder was injured for a long time last season and missed most of the U17 World Cup in Indonesia, which the German team finished as world champions, after tearing his syndesmosis. The millions that Ouédraogo will now fetch Schalke can be put to good use by the financially strapped club. According to information from this editorial team, at least part of the transfer fee will be invested in the squad
