The future of Michel Niemeyer has been clarified. The ex-Essener, who most recently trained with Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, has been signed permanently.
After Rot-Weiß Oberhausen’s 5-0 win over SV Sonsbeck in the final test match before the start of the Regionalliga on Tuesday evening, coach Jörn Nowak had been tight-lipped about signing test player Michel Niemeyer.
The following day, the cloverleaves then created facts – they signed the 27-year-old permanently. Niemeyer spent the past two years with third-division club Rot-Weiss Essen. Due to injury, however, he only made six appearances for RWE.
“Michel has already been in training with us for a few weeks. During this time, he convinced us that he can help the team,” said Oberhausen’s sporting director Patrick Bauder. “He has already been able to gain a lot of experience in the second and third divisions, which is why we are very happy to be able to sign him.”
Niemeyer gained the aforementioned experience in the service of RWE, 1. FC Magdeburg and Wehen Wiesbaden. The Salzwedel native was trained at RB Leipzig.
