On matchday 8 of the Oberliga Westfalen, there was a surprising defeat for TuS Bövinghausen and the coaching debut in Wattenscheid went down the drain.
Matchday eight of the Oberliga Westfalen is in the can. On Sunday (October 1), SG Wattenscheid, TuS Bövinghausen and the surprise of the season so far came away empty-handed.
League leader Sportfreunde Lotte had come out on top in Saturday’s game and defeated ASC Dortmund in the top match (2:0). One day later, it became clear what the success was worth.
The team that followed in their footsteps, SpVgg Erkenschwick, lost at home to Sportfreunde Siegen by a clear 1:4 (1:1). For the visitors, the first game after the departure of coach Patrick Helmes was a direct victory. Promoted Erkenschwick slipped to second place and is now three points behind Lotte.
TuS Bövinghausen would also like to find itself in a similar region of the table. But the reality is different. Christian Knappmann’s team was the clear favorite at former last-place Eintracht Rheine – and yet had to admit defeat with 0:2 (0:1). The hosts thus passed the red lantern on to SG Wattenscheid 09.
There, Engin Yavuzaslan was on the sidelines for the first time as coach, but the debut failed. In the home match against TSG Sprockhövel there was a 1:4 defeat (1:3). Felix Casalino (9th) had the right answer to the first goal by Joshua Torres (7th), but Kiyan Gilani (42nd, 45th) put the visitors on the winning track before the break.
There were away wins for SC Preußen Münster II (4:2 in Brünninghausen) and SV Schermbeck (2:1 in Vreden). With 18 points, Schermbeck is Lotte’s new number one pursuer. 1. FC Gievenbeck and Westfalia Rhynern shared the points without a goal. At the end of the matchday, SG Finnentrop/Bamenohl won 4:3 (4:2) against TuS Ennepetal.
