Rot-Weiß Oberhausen has landed a talented defender. The 20-year-old Michael Wentzel already played in the Regionalliga West last season.
Rot-Weiß Oberhausen has signed Michael Wentzel. The regional league club made the announcement on Friday afternoon. The centre-back comes from the U23 of Borussia Mönchengladbach, played 33 games there in the 2021/2022 season in the Regionalliga West and scored three goals.
“We wanted to address the centre-back position with another player, which we succeeded in doing with the signing of Michael. He has already played a few Regionalliga games at his young age and therefore knows the league very well. Thanks to his good training in Mönchengladbach, he will strengthen our squad,” Oberhausen’s sporting director Patrick Bauder said about the new signing.
“I am very happy to be here in Oberhausen. For me, this is the next good step in my career. From the beginning, I was convinced of RWO,” explained Wentzel. “Together with the team, I want to achieve our goals and I’m looking forward to a successful season together with the fans,” added the 20-year-old.
After the 13:0 victory over MTV Union Hamborn in the Niederrheinpokal during the week, Rot-Weiß Oberhausen continue their campaign in the Regionalliga West with an away match at SV Rödinghausen on Saturday (14:00, RS-Ticker). Coach Mike Terranova’s team currently occupies fourth place in the league.
