SV Elversberg have signed left-back Arne Sicker. The 26-year-old played for MSV Duisburg from 2019 to 2021.
SV Elversberg continue to prepare for their debut season in the 2nd Bundesliga. After Paul Stock (TSV Steinbach), Joseph Boyamba (1860 Munich) and Dominik Martinovic (Waldhof Mannheim), the fourth newcomer has now been presented. He has already left his mark in the area.
Arne Sicker leaves relegated SV Sandhausen on a free transfer and joins the Saarland club. The left-back has signed a two-year contract until 2025. Before his time in Sandhausen (32 appearances, one goal, one assist), Sicker went through the youth of Holstein Kiel, where he also took his first steps in professional football and celebrated promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga (24 appearances, three assists).
In 2019, the step back into the third division followed. The man from Eckernförde joined MSV Duisburg, for whom he made a total of 68 appearances – more often than at his other two clubs combined. For the Zebras, the full-back, who can also play centrally defensively or in midfield, managed two goals and six assists.
Sicker missed out on promotion with MSV
In his first season (2019/20), he led the third division table with the Zebras for long stretches of the season. However, MSV stumbled in the final spurt of the season and missed out on promotion by two points. In the following year, the team only managed to finish 15th, but Sicker still managed to make the leap into the 2nd Bundesliga by switching to SVS.
The 26-year-old has remained there even after Sandhausen’s relegation. “Arne brings very good prerequisites with his speed, reliability and playing strength both in defensive behaviour and in switching on to offensive actions as an outfield defender. He knows the 2nd Bundesliga and will enrich our team,” SVE sports director Ole Book was convinced.
Sicker himself is facing “not an everyday task, but a special one, to be involved in a club that has just experienced a fantastic upswing”. SVE marched through from the Regionalliga Südwest into the 2nd Bundesliga. They now want to establish themselves there. “I’m looking forward to tackling this new challenge in the 2nd division with SV Elversberg and the entire team. “
