Marvin Senger has left MSV Duisburg after relegation. Now he is moving abroad.
Marvin Senger spent two years at MSV Duisburg. The 25-year-old’s time at the Wedau came to an inglorious end with relegation to the regional league. Just like with the Zebras, Senger is now facing a new beginning – and he is doing so abroad. The central defender is moving to Poland to play for Stal Mielec.
Senger has signed a two-year contract with the club from the first-class Ekstraklasa. The club has also secured an option to extend his contract for a further season.
Senger came to Duisburg two years ago from FC St. Pauli. He played 48 games for MSV and scored two goals. In his first year, Senger was a regular for the Revierklub, but lost this status in the relegation season.
Mielec is Senger’s first stop abroad. In addition to his experience from the two turbulent seasons at MSV, he can look back on second and third division appearances for St. Pauli and 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
MSV Duisburg: Many ex-players still without a new club
The 1.93-metre defender is the next Duisburg player to leave the club who has found a new club. Caspar Jander (1. FC Nürnberg), AHmet Engin (Igdir FK), Vincent Müller (Aalborg BK), Santiago Castaneda (SC Paderborn), Niklas Kölle (SSV Ulm), Baran Mogultay (Borussia Dortmund II), Benjamin Girth (Würzburger Kickers) and Kolja Pusch (TSV Meerbusch) have already signed new contracts. Daniel Ginczek ended his active career.
It is still unclear what the future holds for Thomas Pledl, Sebastian Mai, Alexander Esswein, Marvin Bakalorz, Rolf Feltscher, Marvin Knoll, Erik Zenga, Niclas Stierlin, Pascal Köpke, Robin Müller, Alaa Bakir, Dennis Smarsch, Chinedu Ekene and Hamza Anhari. The 14 players have been officially without a club since July 1.
Meanwhile, Duisburg are preparing for the regional league season following the complete shake-up. The second test of the summer is scheduled for Wednesday at the training camp in Epe, the Netherlands. It is against the Scottish club Hibernian FC. The match will kick off at 2 p.m. and will not be played in public.
