The squad planning at SG Wattenscheid 09 is progressing. The preferred candidate stays, one striker extends.
David Loheider and Berkan Firat will remain with SG Wattenscheid 09. The club announced this on Friday.
“Firat was an absolute dream candidate from my point of view,” said new signing Christopher Pache, who was also unveiled as the new coach on Friday.
“He works the center and is very versatile there. In his six months with us, he has often taken on the more defensive role. But I can also well imagine that he can play a few positions further forward. He’s a good box-to-box player with strong dribbling and a good one-on-one. I’m looking forward to continuing to work with Berkan and being able to support him in his development,” added Engin Yavuzaslan’s former assistant coach.
Firat joined in the winter from Rot Weiss Ahlen and was trained in Wattenscheid. According to board member Stefan Beermann, the 25-year-old is a “player with 09 DNA”. He played 15 Oberliga games for SGW in the second half of the season, scoring one goal
Lohrheide and Loheider – a perfect match

David Loheider has also extended his contract by two years. “Lohrheide and Loheider – they fit like a glove,” said the 33-year-old striker, who only arrived in the summer.
“Loheider has made an absolute commitment to 09 with his new contract. He’s really looking forward to the new season and the new challenges. He has already made his mark on a few games and shown what potential he has. The trick will be to work on ensuring that he can consistently deliver these performances. We are working on that. But he’s also an important person off the pitch and has a high standing in the team. I’m delighted to be able to continue working with him,” enthused Pache.
Niklas Lübcke (VfL Bochum II), Nico Thier (Sportfreunde Lotte), Frederik Wiebel (destination unknown) and Nils da Costa Pereira (Spielvereinigung Erkenschwick) have left Wattenscheid so far
