VfB Homberg is still desperately looking for a new attacker. A desired striker cancelled his contract with Duisburg on Thursday evening.
VfB Homberg is desperate to avoid double relegation to the Landesliga in the remaining round of the Oberliga Niederrhein.
After relegation from the Regionalliga West, VfB is now also in the red zone one level below. In order to avoid double relegation in the 20 remaining matches, the Homberg team is looking for a new striker.
For a long time, sporting director Frank Hildebrandt fought for a desired player. Unfortunately, he turned us down on Thursday evening. He wants to move to the Regionalliga. That’s a real shame, because it would have been a great sporting fit. He also lives in Duisburg. Now we have to see what else is on the market,” Hildebrandt told RevierSport.
The 24-year-old attacker made 39 regional league appearances for Alemannia Aachen (one goal) between 2020 and 2022 and has been without a club since last summer. Falaye’s new destination is still unknown.
Meanwhile, the situation of Jesse Weißenfels, who played ten games (one goal, two assists) in the first half of the season, has been clarified in Homberg. The 13-time third league professional no longer plays a role in coach Stefan Janßen’s Oberliga squad. “These are sporting reasons that have led to this. Jesse will train and play in our Bezirksliga-Reserve in the second half of the season. Or he will find a new club,” says Hildebrandt.
For Weißenfels, the demotion is very bitter. After all, the 30-year-old has played for Sportfreunde Lotte, Stuttgarter Kickers, FC Schalke 04 II, SV Waldhof Mannheim and Preußen Münster. Now the student teacher will be chasing goals for the second team of VfB Homberg in the seventh division of the Bezirksliga.
