Despite second place in winter, there will be “no change of course”

SV Lippstadt has had a more than good season in the Oberliga Westfalen so far. However, this does not change the objectives.

SV Lippstadt goes into the Oberliga Westfalen winter break as the closest pursuer of leaders SG Wattenscheid 09. This means that the chances of promotion seem high. However, SVL’s sporting director, Dirk Brökelmann, is striking a very different note for the time being, referring to the goals set before the season.

Dirk Brökelmann, how do you assess the first half of the season?

For us, the first half of the season has been very successful and satisfactory so far. We are seeing development within our squad, our team. We are absolutely happy with our current position in the table. There are always things you can work on, things you can develop further. Those are our goals for the second half of the season, and then we’ll see what happens.

What has been the highlight for you so far?

That was definitely the last match day with an absolutely top game against SG Wattenscheid 09. That is certainly something that will remain in our memories and was a highlight of the first half of the season, not only because of the floodlight failure, but also because of the quality that both teams brought to the pitch.

And what was the most negative experience?

That we didn’t reach our performance limit in one or two games. I’m thinking in particular of the first half of the game against Rot Weiss Ahlen, which we ultimately lost. That was definitely one of our weakest halves of the season. But we drew the right conclusions from that and continued to have a good season. Will there be any changes to the squad during the winter break? Nothing is planned in terms of departures or new signings.

What is your goal for the rest of the season?

We have clearly stated that our goal is to finish in the top six of the league. And that remains our goal. We will not be changing that. And even if people don’t like to hear it, or if it sounds like a cliché: we will continue to take each game as it comes in the second half of the season and really get the best out of it. And if, in the end, the best possible result is one of the top two places, then we will be very, very happy to accept that. But that doesn’t change our goal, and we won’t be changing course.
