Despite Sixth Place – Former WSV Coach Fired After Just Nine Months

Ersan Parlatan had long been among the top contenders in the Northeast Regional League with VSG Altglienicke. Following his first major slump in results, the former WSV coach has now been let go.

VSG Altglienicke has relieved head coach Ersan Parlatan of his duties effective immediately. His assistant, Ercan Aydinoglu, is also leaving the club. The sixth-place team in the Northeast Regional League announced this on Tuesday.

Parlatan served as head coach at Wuppertaler SV from December 2023 to June 2024. After two brief stints in Turkey with Ankara Keciörengücü and Altinordu, the 48-year-old signed a two-year contract with VSG Altglienicke last summer.

However, after a strong start to the season, the team’s performance has recently taken a clear downturn. Since the turn of the year in the Northeast Regional League, VSG has failed to win a single match (two losses, three draws). After a total of 29 competitive matches on the sidelines, during which Parlatan achieved a more than respectable points average of 1.79 points per game, his time at the Berlin neighborhood club has now come to an end.

“Ersan has worked with great dedication and a high level of professional expertise. For that, he deserves our utmost respect. However, in open and trusting discussions, it became clear that our views diverge on key sporting issues,” explained Torsten Mattuschka, sporting director of the VSG. “That is why we have jointly decided to take this step. We wish Ersan and Ercan all the best for their future.”

Until the end of the season, former assistant coach Dan Twardzik, brother of FC Gütersloh pro Patrik Twardzik, will take over interim responsibility for the team. He will be supported by Björn Brunnemann.
Points Table
Ersan Parlatan has an interesting background. Before his stints in Wuppertal and Ankara, he worked for the Turkish second-division club Bandirmaspor, where former Rot-Weiss Essen pro Cebio Soukou was also under contract. While he was let go in Ankara after twelve games, Parlatan’s stint in Bandirma lasted only eight matches. But even here, the brief stint was successful from a coaching perspective, with an average of 1.88 points per game.

The German-Turkish coach, who is known for his people skills and communicative nature, also posted a similarly strong points average as head coach of Kickers Offenbach—19 games, 1.95 points per match. And he also did an outstanding job at TSV Steinbach—23 matches, 2.09 points per game. In addition, he held head coaching positions at Berliner AK (45 games, 2.02 points per game) and Viktoria Berlin (67 games, 1.63 points per game).

In addition to his head coaching stints, Parlatan has also served three times as an assistant coach at the professional level. Specifically, in the Turkish Süper Lig with Göztepe Izmir and Konyaspor, as well as with second-division club 1. FC Nürnberg.
