DFB approves general schedule for 2023/24

In a meeting, the German Football Association (DFB) has decided on the schedule for the 2023/24 season of the German professional leagues.

The Bundesliga will start the new season on 18 August next year, and the champion will be crowned next season on 18 May 2024 at the latest. This is the result of the general schedule adopted by the Executive Committee of the German Football Association (DFB) at its meeting in Frankfurt am Main on Friday. The last matchday before the winter break is scheduled for 19/20 December 2023. The ball will then start rolling again in the Bundesliga as early as 12 January 2024.

The DFB Cup final will take place on 25 May 2024 in Berlin – just three weeks before the opening match of the home European Championship. The first round of the cup on the weekend of 11 to 14 August 2023 will, as always, take place before the Bundesliga kick-off. On 12 August, the champions and cup winners from the current season will also play for the Supercup. The first round matches of these two teams in the DFB Cup will be made up on 26/27 September.

The 2nd Bundesliga starts even earlier. The first matchday will take place on 28 July 2023, followed by the winter break on 17 December, which ends on 19 January 2024. The season finale is set for 19 May 2024. The relegation matches for promotion to the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga will take place between 22 and 29 May 2024. The 3rd division season will run from 4 August 2023 to 18 May 2024.
