DFB distributes funding – MSV far ahead, RWE in sixth place

The DFB has calculated who receives what from the 3rd division’s youth development fund. Right at the top is 1860 Munich. RWE and MSV are in sixth and second place.

Those who strengthen and promote their talents are rewarded by the DFB. The German Football Association (DFB) pays a total of 2.95 million euros gross per year to the third division clubs.

The second divisions do not participate in this sum, they are excluded. Two criteria are used for evaluation,

Criterion number one: A performance centre must be in place to receive 100,000 euros. If an NLZ has been applied for or has not received a negative decision, then 50,000 euros will be given.

Criterion number two: The playing time of players in the 3rd division with German nationality at U21 age. Here, the amount that is still available after the distribution of the NLZ money is distributed.

As in the previous year, TSV 1860 München grabs the most money. Last year it was 448,ooo euros gross, this year even 475,000 euros. Directly behind: MSV Duisburg, who can look forward to 420,000 euros. Rot-Weiss Essen is in sixth place with 201,811 euros.

A total of eleven of the 18 eligible clubs for the 2022/2023 third division season will participate with an amount in the six-figure range, which must be paid out by 30 September.

Important: For legal reasons, the subsidies may only flow into the non-profit sector of the clubs, and the use of the funds is earmarked for the promotion of young talent. The clubs must prove this accordingly.

In accordance with the decision of the DFB Executive Committee, the funding measure will initially run in its current form until the end of the 2023/2024 season.
