Karim Adeyemi was injured when he scored in Borussia Dortmund’s 4-1 home win over Hertha BSC. Now the diagnosis and time out of action have been determined.
Borussia Dortmund will have to do without Karim Adeyemi for at least three weeks in the Bundesliga title fight. The international suffered a torn muscle fibre in his left thigh during his assist for the 2:0 win against Hertha BSC (4:1) on Sunday evening.
This was announced by the club on Monday. The 21-year-old was substituted immediately after assisting Donyell Malen’s goal (31st). He had scored the 1:0 himself after an assist from Marco Reus (28th). “We will probably miss him in the next few games, but we hope it won’t be too long before he can be back,” BVB coach Edin Terzic had told DAZN.
After a bumpy first half-year in Dortmund, Adeyemi had recently shown why BVB paid 30 million euros for his services in the summer. He scored his first two goals of the season against Leverkusen and Freiburg. With his 1:0 winning goal against Chelsea FC in the Champions League, the youngster finally sprinted into the hearts of the Dortmund fans.
The injury is now slowing down the fastest player in the Bundesliga (36.7 km/h, measured against Freiburg) for the time being. As a result, Terzic will have to do without the 21-year-old not only for the upcoming away match in Hoffenheim, but also for the top match against RB Leipzig. It is also very likely that he will miss the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 in London (first leg 1:0) on 7 March.
Adeyemi could make his comeback in the Revier derby against FC Schalke (11 March) at the earliest. However, a return on the following matchday against 1. FC Köln (18 March) seems more realistic at the moment.
