FC Schalke’s performance at 1. FC Kaiserslautern was desolate. After the 1:4 defeat, striker Kenan Karaman had clear words.
That was nothing. FC Schalke disgraced themselves in the basement duel at 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Coach Karel Geraerts’ team went down 4-1 (0-1) at the Betzenberg. Kenan Karaman spoke plainly after this poor performance.
The attacking player faced critical questions in the Sky interview and seemed stunned: “It’s very difficult to find the right words. We set ourselves a lot of targets.” There was no sign of that, especially in the second half.
“We weren’t there in the tackles, Kaiserslautern had more grip and were always one step quicker.”
Even the interim 1:1 through returnee Darko Churlinov did nothing to change that. Schalke promptly conceded another goal
“Then we fall apart, that can’t happen. We had a good feeling in preparation, but that doesn’t count, it counts when it comes to the three points.” He then settled accounts with the whole team
“Everyone must now scrutinize themselves in the mirror. We don’t have to dream that we’ll climb a few places, we have to work our asses off against Braunschweig.” When asked whether everyone had recognized the seriousness of the situation, Karaman was surprisingly honest.
“Not the way I felt today, no.” Karaman also fully understood the early cessation of support from Schalke fans and the ‘We’ve had enough’ chants. “They travel here five or six hours from Gelsenkirchen and we tear up the place like that. “
The next opponent is Eintracht Braunschweig. The club from Lower Saxony currently occupy the relegation spot, one place behind Schalke. With a win against Magdeburg on Sunday (January 29, 1.30 pm), Braunschweig could draw level with Königsblau in terms of points.
