Big disappointment at VfL Bochum. Despite a decent performance, it was not enough to score at SC Freiburg. Bochum lost 1:2 in the Breisgau.
“It was a good away game for long periods. We defended well. In the first half, we also had a few opportunities to score a goal. In the second half, we didn’t do elementary things well. The Freiburg victory was certainly not undeserved,” said Marc Lettau, Bochum’s sports director, summing up the 1:2 loss at SC Freiburg.
However, the professionals of VfL Bochum can’t buy anything for words of praise. They are only words of encouragement. After all, the next game is already scheduled for Friday (October 27, 8:30 p.m.). An immensely important encounter against Mainz, which is also still winless before the Saturday evening match against FC Bayern.
All-clear for Gamboa
So also defender Cristian Gamboa, who was injured by a foul in Freiburg, but gave the all-clear, directed the view forward. Gamboa said, “The ankle is okay. For us, we’re moving on. We have to focus on Mainz now. We are playing for everything and we need the points.”
Goncalo Pacienca, who scored his first Bundesliga goal for VfL, could not really be happy about this sense of achievement either. The attacker, who has also scored for Eintracht Frankfurt and FC Schalke 04, also knew in the end that his goal was useless.
Pacienca summed up, “We have to continue to work with concentration. We have to focus on our game and not discuss the referee. It’s difficult, but we must continue to be positive and calm. In a few days we already have the next game on the schedule.”
He added: “The goal feels good. For a striker it’s always positive and you can get confidence. But I can’t really be happy about it because the goal didn’t bring any points. I hope I score against Mainz and we get our first win. “
