District league club faces annual highlight against MSV – only Duisburg fans in the team

SV Duissern receives a very special opponent for the club’s 100th anniversary: MSV Duisburg is the guest.

SV Duissern from the Kreisliga A expects a big highlight on Friday. At 7 p.m., MSV Duisburg will be the guest at the SV’s sports facility. The occasion is a special one: Duissern is celebrating the club’s 100th anniversary.

Coach Torsten Wiedenau is looking forward to kick-off: “The anticipation of playing against a professional team is enormous. It’s a highlight for every coach, every player and the entire club. When we heard about it, there was already a lot of euphoria in the club.”

Board member Sebastian Paradis explains how the match came about in the first place: “I have a few contacts at MSV, we started cultivating them last year because we knew when we would be 100 years old. We intensified them this year and then managed to pull it off.”

And so the Duissern side welcome the Zebras for their first match after the summer break. According to Wiedenau, the focus of the game will be on having fun: “We are looking forward to the game with anticipation. There shouldn’t be any danger of hurting anyone. I assume that everything will go smoothly. We will prepare the boys properly for it.”

Great backdrop and great turf

Although a few of the team’s players are still on holiday, Wiedenau expects a team strength of 20 to 22 men. The turf in Duissern also seems to be in top shape. The natural turf on which the match will be played has been renaturalised in recent weeks, making it a suitable surface for this special encounter.

1500 tickets have been sold so far. This is already a great setting for the anniversary. But there are still more tickets available. Both online and in the MSV fan shop and on Wednesdays and Thursdays between 6 and 8 p.m. at the SV Duissern pitch.

The anticipation within the team of the sports club is also great, as Wiedenau reveals: “I don’t know anyone in our team who is not an MSV fan. Of course, it’s doubly nice that the professional club comes from the same city and is only a few kilometres away. That will be a cool event. But they can warm up for the new season on Sunday.”

Then, in the second test match of the season, MSV will meet the next A-league team, DJK Lösort Meiderich (Sunday, 2 July, 2 p.m.). Then the Duisserners will also be MSV fans again and wish the Zebras a great 2023/24 season.
