B-league team SV Borbeck led 5-0 against Barisspor after ten minutes, then their opponents forced the game to be abandoned. This drove coach Kevin Betting crazy.
Actually, it was a match day to the liking of SV Borbeck. Promotion rival Al-Arz Libanon II had lost the home game against the second team of Vogelheimer SV late with 1:2 and made a mistake. In addition, SVB had the manageable task against Barisspor Essen ahead of them.
And this task should not pose any problems for the team that was relegated from the Kreisliga A: After just ten minutes, Borbeck was already leading 5-0 (!). Top scorer Esad Morina had scored a record-breaking four goals within just five minutes.
But then the game was suddenly abandoned. What had happened? The guests, who could not be reached for comment, only traveled with six outfield players and one goalkeeper. After the 5-0, the Barisspor goalkeeper reported an injury in order to force the game to be abandoned.
It is not the first time that the club has acted in this way. Barisspor did not even show up for the game at DJK Dellwig, and the upcoming games against Tusem Essen and TuS Holsterhausen were abandoned after less than 20 minutes, similar to the game in Borbeck. The rules state: “The referee may stop play at the request of a team’s captain if that team has fewer than seven players on the field due to ejection and the score is in favor of the opponent.”
It’s an absolute outrage to exploit the gap in the system and let opponents take part in the game knowing that you’ll leave after 15 minutes at the latest anyway. This has been going on for three games now.
Kevin Betting.
By canceling during a game, the opponent gets the three points awarded, but you escape even a forced descent – unlike if you do not start three times from the beginning. Borbeck’s coach Kevin Betting was extremely annoyed with the opponent:
“It’s a complete disgrace to exploit a gap in the system and let opponents play knowing that you’ll leave after 15 minutes at the latest. It’s been going on for three games now. It’ll probably continue for the next two games so that they can save themselves for the winter break and avoid being withdrawn. This has nothing to do with sportsmanship. This is really the lowest level.”
Meanwhile, SV Borbeck’s sporting fortunes are on the up again. With the three points from the Barisspor game, the ambitious B-league team climbs to a promotion place and is on course to return to the Kreisliga A.
