VfL Osnabrück is currently being passed through and has no recipe against the series of defeats.
Since the beginning of the 2023/24 season, almost nothing has been going right for VfL Osnabrück. In 49 league games since then, they have only managed eight wins.
As a result, the club is now facing the prospect of being relegated again to the third division after being relegated to the third division. The 4-2 defeat at FC Ingolstadt on Sunday was a new low point, with the game decided early on, as VfL were already 4-0 down after 56 minutes.
VfL’s assistant coach Tim Danneberg was also fed up. He replaced the ill coach Pit Reimers and said after the defeat to “MagentaSport”: “We talk about defense, but also about our own behavior in possession of the ball. That was far too dubious in many moments. We always talk about basics that have to be on the pitch, about simple, clear things in building up play as well. These are moments when we were far too unfocused in our heads. Those weren’t the moments when we could say that the opponent played us into the ground. It was our own mistakes in building up play, unnecessary ball losses, a first contact that wasn’t right. These are little things that went wrong in many points up to 4-1. After that, you could see what the team is capable of despite being short-handed.”
After two goals in one minute, there was briefly hope of a miracle, but the sending off of veteran Timo Beermann dashed all hopes. Danneberg: “We sit at half-time, address many things and then we permanently invite the opponent to score goals. These are things I strongly disagree with. It’s way too easy.”
I don’t know if it goes deeper. No idea how you can explain a mindset like that in a game
Dave Gnaase
Osnabrück player Dave Gnaase was also stunned because hardly anything was right again. He emphasized on “MagentaSport”: “I’m a little lost for words. It’s not just the mistakes that lead to the goals against. We play such a dispirited game. It’s madness. We’ve been talking every day for months about what we need to work on. But week after week, we can’t get it together on the pitch. I don’t know if it goes deeper than that. I have no idea how you can explain such an attitude in a game. We have hardly won any games in a year and a half. That also takes a toll on your self-confidence. Getting out of it is brutally difficult. We get one in the face day after day and week after week.”
