Dresden’s losing streak ends, Aachen battles to a draw in Bielefeld

Dynamo Dresden celebrates its first three points after four consecutive games without a win thanks to a last-minute goal. Alemannia Aachen holds the second-placed team to a draw.

The 12th matchday in the 3rd division kicked off on Friday evening with a spectacular game. FC Ingolstadt won 5-3 (2-2) against Borussia Dortmund’s second team. BVB had already taken a 2-0 lead before the Schanzer came back and turned the game around in impressive fashion.

Rot-Weiss Essen lost 4-0 to Hansa Rostock in a basement battle. The other games on Saturday were more exciting, albeit less prolific in terms of goals. Arminia Bielefeld had been in excellent form recently and faced Alemannia Aachen. Aachen traveled to second-placed Bielefeld with two wins in a row and a lot of confidence.

Coach Mitch Kniat’s team took an early lead when Aachen goalkeeper Elias Bördner made a blunder, trying to collect a back pass but letting the ball slip over his foot and into his own net (3′). Alemannia was awarded a penalty in the 35th minute and had a huge chance to equalize: Anton Heinz stepped up, but Bielefeld goalkeeper Jonas Kersken guessed the corner and saved the penalty.

Shortly after the break, Aachen finally equalized. Lukas Scepanik scored the 1-1 equalizer after an assist from Thilo Töpken (53′). That was how it stayed until the end. It was the sixth game in a row without defeat for the Kaiserstädter.

Dynamo Dresden’s losing streak came to an end, however. After four games in a row without a win, Dynamo beat Hannover 96’s second team 2-1 (0-1). Lukas Wallner put the Lower Saxony side ahead (17th minute), but late in the second half, Robin Meißner (78th minute) and Oliver Batista Meier (90+2) turned the game around in Dresden’s favor.

SpVgg Unterhaching continues to tread water and remains deep in the relegation zone. Despite taking the lead, they were unable to secure a win against Viktoria Köln, with the game ending 1-1 (1-0). Andy Breuer scored the opening goal for Haching (11th minute), while Lex Tyger Lobinger saved Cologne at least a point (66th minute).

Last-placed VfL Osnabrück and 1. FC Saarbrücken also drew 1-1 (0-1). The Saarland side were down to ten men after just 27 minutes when Lasse Wilhelm was shown a second yellow card. Nevertheless, Sebastian Vasiliadis scored for FCS (41′), but Bastien Conus equalized for the home side in the second half (57′). VfL also finished the game with ten men after Erik Engelhardt was shown a red card (73′).
