DSC Wanne-Eickel wins derby and match day – other top teams slip up

DSC Wanne-Eickel puts on a spectacular show in the derby against Westfalia Herne. The other top teams also play for the traditional club.

All eyes were on two matches on the eleventh match day of the Westfalenliga 2. One because of tradition and one because of the league table situation.

First, the tradition: DSC Wanne-Eickel made the short trip to Westfalia Herne. Shortly before the derby, Herne had to digest the resignation of their coach Misel Zec, and there was little good news for Westfalia on the pitch either. DSC Wanne-Eickel won 5-3 and is now back in the race for promotion, even though that was never the goal there.

By halftime, Wanne-Eickel had already built up a 3-1 lead, which they extended to 5-1. Herne’s remaining two goals were merely cosmetic, and Herne now has to look down the table again.

This meant that DSC was not only the derby winner, but also the big beneficiary at the top of the table. In the second match, between leaders DJK TuS Hordel and second-placed Holzwickeder SC, no goals were scored. This allowed Wanne-Eickel to close the gap on the top two to one and two points respectively.

It also played into DSC’s hands that both TuS Erndtebrück and SpVgg Horsthausen failed to win. Erndtebrück lost 2-0 to RSV Meinerzhagen, while Horsthausen returned to the Ruhr region with a 3-1 defeat at FC Iserlohn.

Wacker Obercastrop celebrated another victory there. They won 2-1 at Vestia Disteln, giving them some breathing space at the bottom of the table. FC Brünninghausen, on the other hand, are still in the danger zone after a 1-1 draw with SSV Buer.

Newcomers SpVg Hagen remain at the bottom of the table. They lost 2-1 to Oberliga relegation side Concordia Wiemelhausen.

SC Obersprockhövel recorded the same result, failing to prevail against BSV Schüren.
