17th matchday of the Regionalliga West. Fortuna Düsseldorf II crowns a furious comeback against Köln II. Aachen defeats Velbert, Lippstadt and Wiedenbrück share the points.
Fortuna Düsseldorf’s second team turned a 0-2 deficit against 1. FC Köln II into a 3-2 victory on matchday 17 of the Regionalliga West!
Florian Dietz (14th) and Justin Diehl (31st) put the Geißböcke on the road to victory early on. At least, that’s how it seemed. But Düsseldorf responded shortly after the restart (51′) through Nicolas Hirschberger and embarked on a dramatic comeback. The hosts scored two goals in the space of two minutes: Deniz-Fabian Bindemann made it 2-2 (81′), before Mechak Quiala-Tito scored the winner (83′). The final score!
Fortuna Düsseldorf II’s comeback victory earned them three important points and plenty of momentum in the relegation battle, climbing them to 15th place. The FC U21s, on the other hand, missed the opportunity to keep pace with leaders 1. FC Bocholt – they remain five points behind, having played one game more.
SSVg Velbert – Alemannia Aachen 0-1 (0-1)
Alemannia Aachen celebrated a 1:0 (1:0) away win at SSVg Velbert on Friday evening in pouring rain and clouds of smoke from the burning visitors’ block.
The Kaiserstädter took the lead after 19 minutes. Dustin Wilms didn’t connect properly with the ball in the penalty area, but with a lot of luck it still crossed the line to make it 1-0 – a deserved half-time score in a scrappy game.
The home side improved significantly after the break, but continued to lack the cutting edge in attack to pose a threat to Aachen.
The score remained 0-1, allowing Alemannia to climb to third place, four points behind Bocholt. Velbert, on the other hand, will end the 17th matchday at the bottom of the table.
SV Lippstadt – SC Wiedenbrück 1-1 (1-0)
In the last game of the evening, SC Wiedenbrück salvaged a 1-1 draw away at SV Lippstadt 08 in stoppage time.
Viktor Maier had given the hosts the lead from the penalty spot in the 31st minute. It looked like three crucial points in the relegation battle were in the bag, but Ben Hüning saved a point for the visitors in the second minute of stoppage time.
SC Wiedenbrück thus maintains its four-point lead over Lippstadt, but the gap to the first safe spot above the relegation zone has melted to one point thanks to Düsseldorf’s victory.
