Effortlessly into the quarterfinals – now last year’s scare awaits

Preußen Münster has clearly defeated Vestia Disteln in the Westfalenpokal. All quarter-finalists have now been determined.

At the end of the Westfalenpokal quarterfinals, a big surprise failed to materialize. Preußen Münster hosted Vestia Disteln from the Landesliga and celebrated an impressive victory: The third division team won 7:1.

The four-class difference was clear from the start. Coach Sascha Hildmann brought seven fresh players into the starting eleven. Disteln survived ten minutes without conceding a goal, then Darius Ghindovean scored to give Münster the lead (11th).

Joel Grodowski via a brace (22nd, 33rd), Marvin Benjamins (36th) and Thorben Deters (44th) increased and ensured a 5-0 lead at the break. In the second half, Grodowski scored his third goal (55th) and Kevin Schacht was also successful (79th). Before that, Disteln was allowed to cheer: Yannick Goecke scored the consolation goal for the outsider.

Apart from the result, Shaibou Oubeyapwa celebrated his comeback from injury and was substituted in the second half. Marcello Romano, who played for ETB SW Essen last season and is currently a successful goal-scorer in the Preußen second team, also made an appearance for about half an hour.

With the expected victory of the third division team, the quarterfinal field of participants in the Westfalenpokal is complete. Waiting for Münster in the next round is SpVgg Erkenschwick, with whom there is still a score to settle. Last year, the Prussians were eliminated after a penalty shootout against the then Westfalenliga team.

In the other games, SV Rödinghausen will face Arminia Bielefeld, SG Wattenscheid SC Verl and RSV Meinerzhagen SV Lippstadt. The exact dates have not yet been set.

For Münster, however, it’s first a continuation of third-league action. After a 0:1 loss at leaders Dynamo Dresden, second-place Jahn Regensburg awaits on Saturday.
