Emotional Sunday – Draw in Dresden and mourning for “Glockenhorst”

A turbulent game for Rot-Weiss Essen in Dresden and sad news for the club: We discuss this in our RWE Talk.

It was an emotional rollercoaster ride for RWE in the Saxon capital on Sunday. After an eventful third division game, Rot-Weiss Essen had to settle for a 3-3 (0-1) draw at Dynamo Dresden. RWE conceded the equalizer in the last second through Dynamo striker Stefan Kutschke. A goal that, in the opinion of some Essen fans, should not have counted.

Despite one of their best performances of the season and taking the lead three times, they only managed to secure one point against promotion contenders Dynamo Dresden. There was great disappointment in the RWE camp, and the frustration at missing out on a chance was palpable.

On the same day, the club had to come to terms with the news that cult fan “Glockenhorst” had passed away. Horst Gehle, alias Glockenhorst, was found dead in his apartment on Sunday. He was 74 years old.

There have been many expressions of condolence on social media, and Rot-Weiss Essen has also published a statement on the death of the fan. In the opinion of our RWE reporters and many fans, the iconic fan deserves a minute’s silence on Wednesday at the next home game against SC Verl.

Both the eventful game in Dresden and the news of Glockenhorst’s death are on the minds of RWE fans at the start of this English week. How should we assess the wild game at Dynamo Dresden? What memories do our experts have of Glockenhorst? We discuss this in our RWE Talk “vonne Hafenstraße.” Joining us are presenter Kira Alex, RWE reporter Ralf Wilhelm, and our RWE reporter Martin Herms, who is joining us from Dresden.
