Somehow it had already been hinted at, and on Friday all players will be informed: SV Straelen will withdraw from the Oberliga.
That’s a real Oberliga bombshell! As Forecasting has learned from the SV Straelen team, those responsible around boss Hermann Tecklenburg have decided to draw a line in the sand.
In other words: According to RS information, SV Straelen will withdraw from the Oberliga Niederrhein with immediate effect!
This news will be officially communicated to all players and staff of the Oberliga Niederrhein third-placed team on Friday afternoon at around 4pm. The players will then be allowed to leave Straelen on a free transfer. Most recently, the team is said to have considered going on strike due to missing salaries from December 2023. This will no longer be necessary.
On Thursday evening, our editorial team was unable to reach either head of sport Kevin Wolze or president Tecklenburg. Captain Luca Thissen did not want to comment on this topic to our editorial team and quickly hung up the phone.
A few days ago, Tecklenburg had emphasized to the “RP”: “We will not part with any players now. The team will fly to a training camp in Turkey at the beginning of February as agreed and will then play out the season as normal.” From February 3 to 9, coach Sunay Acar was supposed to prepare the team for the rest of the season in Belek, Turkey. However, he too will have to start looking for a new club instead.
Tecklenburg is said to have believed in the continuation of the season until the very end and fought for it. Until he had to look reality in the face: The entrepreneur is said to be too financially and health-wise to continue looking after his “baby” SV Straelen in the top division.
The 75-year-old businessman also recently emphasized that he does not want to comment on the future at Römerstraße beyond the 2023/2024 season: “First of all, it’s about the future of the company, then comes private life and perhaps soccer in third place.”
And when it comes to soccer, things will finally be clear on Friday, January 19, 2024: That’s the end of the line for premier league soccer at Römerstraße.
