Rot-Weiss Essen has released many players in the summer. We show how Engelmann, Kefkir and Co. started and what Herzenbruch is doing.
The first games have been played – we take a look at how things are going with Rot-Weiss Essen’s summer departures.
Niklas Tarnat: His contract expired in the summer, Tarnat joined league rivals 1860 Munich. He is a regular player for the Löwen. He set up a goal in the 3:0 away win in Duisburg – the switch paid off for the 25-year-old.
Simon Engelmann: Engelmann missed two games due to injury (calf), only once did he play the entire 90 minutes: So it is not yet his season. The 34-year-old is waiting for his first goal for SV Rödinghausen in the league. He did score in the Westfalenpokal – during the week in the win against TSV Oerlinghausen.
Felix Herzenbruch: Felix Herzenbruch has not yet found a club. He is currently training with Rot-Weiß Oberhausen, but will not receive a contract there. That is certain. And what else? The 30-year-old enjoys time with his family and takes care of other projects. Herzenbruch, for example, appears as a TV pundit. He is completely relaxed: The family, the day-care position, the university – you don’t just give that up. After all, he has clear ideas about the future. So he is registered as unemployed with the job centre, collects unemployment benefits for a year, can continue studying in peace, do his bachelor’s degree. “Then I will become a teacher, a civil servant, and can continue to feed my family,” is his plan.
Oguzhan Kefkir: Oberhausen, a good keyword: Kefkir is under contract with RWO and is a starter there. Six games, two assists – things are going well for him and for the club: Oberhausen and coach Jörn Nowak are in third place in the table.
Michel Niemeyer: Niemeyer also moved to Oberhausen. The highly talented defender, unfortunately plagued by injuries, has already missed four Regionalliga games. He played against Lippstadt (4:1) and Düsseldorf II (2:0).
Aurel Loubongo: Gets at VfB Oldenburg what he did not get in Essen: Field time. Loubongo is doing well for the team relegated from the third division and has played in all six matches so far. He set up one goal. He could go the way of Ayodele Adetula, who also left Essen for Oldenburg and took off there.
Raphael Koczor: Missed the first games due to suspension, now he is ready for action and set. Koczor is the clear number one at FC Kray.
Nico Haiduk: Only a few weeks ago he terminated his contract with RWE, he has landed at Landesliga club Borussia Dröschede. There he is a player for the first eleven.
Timur Kesim: Oberliga club ETB has not really got going in the season yet. The city neighbours have only scored one goal in the current season – Kesim scored for the Schwarz-Weißen.
Meiko Sponsel: Returned to the second team of 1. FC Köln and is an undisputed regular there.
Luca Wollschläger: Wollschläger’s loan to Essen was not a successful one. He was never able to assert himself. At Hertha BSC, he is once again part of the regional league team – so far he has mostly sat on the bench.
Moritz Römling: Römling has also stayed with his “mother club”. He is trying to assert himself in the Bundesliga team. So far it hasn’t worked, but: one hears a lot of good things about the Wittener. “Moritz is a great boy, his development is great,” said coach Thomas Letsch when asked by this editorial team. “He’s been throwing himself into every training session without end, throws himself in between the players, and also has good forward actions.”
Ben Heuser (loan): RWE loaned out the Swiss player to Cosmos Koblenz. There he makes regular appearances. He scored two points in four games.
