Engin Vural criticises DFB – “satisfied” with start to season

The MSV Duisburg U19s have five points from three games. Engin Vural is satisfied with the start and criticises the DFB.

The MSV Duisburg U19s have made a good start to the season. The first match was a 1-1 draw against SC Paderborn, followed by the first win against Fortuna Düsseldorf (2-1). On the third matchday, there was another 1:1, this time against VfL Bochum. Five points and a safe 6th place are on the books for now. A position that coach Engin Vural would probably be grateful for at the end of the season.

Keep in the league as the only goal of the season

For the coach, only one thing counts this season: “We communicated from the outset that our only goal is to stay in the league. In a single round with five relegated teams, that’s a real fight. We got a point against really strong Bochum and that’s another reason why we’re satisfied with our start.”

The DFB’s fixture list again only allows for a short season this year. Each team will only play each other once, so each team will only have to play 15 games. Next year, each team will thus only have to play four league games. Less than a month will then be played between 19 February and 11 March.

Vural: “There will be enormous pressure built up. “

There was plenty of criticism of the DFB for this from almost every person in charge of all the clubs, as well as from Vural: “I really don’t like it at all that the boys only have 15 games and then five teams are relegated. It’s building up enormous pressure, which is exactly what the DFB didn’t want. We’re not happy with the organisation at all, but we can’t change it and have to make the best of it.”

For Duisburg, the mission to stay in the relegation zone continues next weekend at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen (Sunday, 04 September, 11 am), who celebrated their first win of the season with a 1-0 win at Preußen Münster on matchday three. Before that, the Zebras will play a test match against TSV Jahn-Hiesfeld (Monday, 29 August, 6:30 pm). Vural explains: “We have a lot of players available to us at the moment. Of course, we want to slowly introduce the players who have not been used often so far to the team. That’s why we arranged the test match. “
