Rot-Weiss Essen II is the ultimate team in Essen’s Kreisliga B Group 1, the designated promoted team. It should continue like this in 2024.
15 games, 15 wins, 117:11 goals: Rot-Weiss Essen’s second team will – finally – be promoted to the Kreisliga A. And at the third attempt.
Coach Stefan Lorenz and project manager Frank Kurth have put together a squad for the 2023/2024 season that can only beat itself in the Kreisliga B – the ninth-highest division.
Stefan Lorenz about…
… the first half of the season: “It was a clean sweep with over 100 goals. No other team in Essen has achieved that. I would say that’s a real scent mark. But, of course, we also know that this is only the Kreisliga B. Nevertheless, you have to get through the first half of the season. With Emre Kilic and Dominik Milaszewski, we also have the two best goal scorers. The boys should continue to duel up front in the second half of the season (laughs). Our plan has definitely worked out. We also enjoy the backing of the club and have the financial support. If you want to get to the top as quickly as possible, then you also need these financial resources. That’s simply part of the truth.”
What was your best moment? “There wasn’t really one moment. Maybe when we scored 100 goals and cracked that mark. Otherwise, every win is nice.
What was your worst moment? “The abandonment of the game in Dellwig was of course unnecessary – simply an unpleasant moment. There will also be a hearing before the district sports court in January. And the one or other injury that lasts a little longer is always very bitter.”
The goals in the new year 2024: “The goal is clearly formulated: to break the 200-goal mark if possible and score as many goals as in the first half of the season. Every game we win, we want to win even more in the second half of the season. That’s an internal goal. Personally, my goal is to remain completely unbeaten in 2024. Of course, that also means in the Kreisliga A. I set myself this goal as a coach and will use all the means at my disposal to achieve it. “
