Jonas Erwig-Drüppel is set at SSVg Velbert and led his team to victory in the top match against Hilden.
SSVg Velbert from the Oberliga Niederrhein can hardly be denied promotion to the Regionalliga West. On the last matchday, the top team beat VfB Hilden 2:1 (0:1). Jonas Erwig-Drüppel scored the decisive second goal for the Velbert team.
Erwig-Drüppel is a key player under head coach Dimitrios Pappas. The right winger once again repaid the trust placed in him against Hilden, although not everything went smoothly for the leaders in the first half.
“We played a poor first half and didn’t get into our stride. Hilden deserved to take the lead. In the second 45 minutes, we then wanted to go all out and we succeeded. We stepped on the gas, built up pressure and allowed less than in the first half. In the end, we were rewarded for a good second half,” said Erwig-Drüppel. Further comments on the game can be found here.
Although the SSVg is not yet mathematically through, promotion to the Regionalliga seems to be only a formality for the league leaders. Erwig-Drüppel nevertheless expects difficult games in the coming weeks: “We can expect some nasty games and we still have to get the necessary points. Last week we showed a strong performance and the second half against Hilden was also strong. We have to continue playing in the same way.”
Contract extended if Velbert promoted
SSVg Velbert is already planning for a coming season in the Regionalliga. Some key players have already extended their contracts at the top club, but some of them will only take effect if the club is promoted – RevierSport reported.
Erwig-Drüppel can already look back on 134 appearances in the Regionalliga West in his career. The 31-year-old has also gained experience in the 2nd Bundesliga and the 3rd Liga. Should promotion be successful, head coach Pappas can also rely on the services of his veteran in the coming year.
“We simply have a great squad and if we go up, then of course you want to play again with the guys in the regional league. I know the league, it’s fun and there are cool stadiums. The whole team wants to reward itself for a great season with promotion and will give everything for just such games so that we really do get promoted in the end,” Erwig-Drüppel said in reference to his contract extension.
On the upcoming 37th matchday, SSVg Velbert will continue at TuRu Düsseldorf. The first leg was clearly won by the leaders with 3:0.
