Finally some good news for KFC Uerdingen. Mehmet Eser promised a main sponsor and jersey sponsor for the match against MSV Duisburg, and he kept his word.
Mehmet Eser, owner of the agency M-Soccermanagement and advisor to the crisis-stricken regional league club KFC Uerdingen, has recently been communicating via the Uerdingen fan radio station “Radio BlauRot.”
Last week, the powerful man behind KFC told the radio station: “I have two important meetings on Tuesday and Wednesday with major sponsors who want to be on the jersey. The amount has not yet been determined. I will negotiate and give my advice, then the board of directors will have to decide. We will decide on one of the two options. I can assure you that we will have a main sponsor for the home game against MSV Duisburg (Saturday, November 23, editor’s note). The sum involved is over 250,000 euros. If it doesn’t work out, I promise that I will put my agency, M-Soccermanagement, on the shirt – also for a sum of over €250,000.“
And lo and behold: businessman and player agent Eser has followed through on his words. A sponsor is ready. The only ”hurdle” is that the executive board and administrative board still have to approve the deal at the beginning of the week.
It is said to be the Mercedes-Benz Herbrand Group, which has a branch in Krefeld-Gartenstadt.
Eser, who confirmed the possible Mercedes sponsorship to the “Westdeutsche Zeitung” on Saturday evening, said of the main sponsor: “It’s a big name. But KFC was once big and now it’s set to grow steadily again. Now the executive board and supervisory board have to approve the contract on Monday.“
Eser in the ‘WZ’: ”Mercedes wants to embark on this journey with us, and we hope for a successful collaboration.”
But despite this good news, things just don’t seem to be calming down at KFC Uerdingen. There is trouble over trademark rights.
KFC Uerdingen demands cancellation or transfer of trademark rights
The club writes on its website: “The club has become aware that Frankfurt-based Radio BlauRot Entertainment GmbH and its managing director Bernd Limberg have recently secured trademark rights to the club logo and the word mark ‘KFC Uerdingen 05’.
This was done without the club’s consent and infringes on its exclusive rights. The club can invoke older business designations within the meaning of Section 5 of the German Trademark Act (MarkenG).
Contrary to rumors, the club’s trademark rights were never freely available to third parties and the club was not unprotected against trademark infringement.
The board is obliged to prevent damage to the club and has therefore decided to request Radio BlauRot Entertainment GmbH and its managing director Bernd Limberg to either have the trademarks deleted or transfer them to the club.
If the trademark is transferred, the board has offered to waive all costs and even reimburse BlauRot Entertainment GmbH for any costs incurred. The association will not incur any costs as a result of the legal action.”
