Tom Baack was one of the best players on the pitch in SC Verl’s 3-1 win in Essen. The Essen-born player extended his strong record against RWE.
Thanks to their 3-1 win at Rot-Weiss Essen, SC Verl climbed out of the relegation zone. On Wednesday evening, the sports club was simply the better team. Verl had a lot of possession from the start, and in the second half, head coach Alexander Ende’s team made good use of their numerical advantage and scored three goals.
One of the best players on the pitch was Tom Baack (rated 2.5 by “kicker”). The 25-year-old was confident on the ball, extremely eager to run, and exuded a lot of enthusiasm for the game. Thanks in part to Baack, SCV was able to keep Essen on their toes with short, quick passes in their 4-2-2-2 formation, even when playing eleven against eleven. What was still missing in this phase was precision and determination in the final third. This improved in the second half against ten Rot-Weisse players.
Back to Baack: It was a special duel for the SC Verl midfield dynamo, who has scored two points (one goal, one assist) in ten games so far and played the full 90 minutes eight times. After all, he is a boy from Essen. Baack was born in Essen in 1999 and played for SV Leithe in his youth before spending a total of 13 years with VfL Bochum.
He even captained the VfL U19 team. As a reward, the 41-time German junior international was awarded a professional contract in 2016. However, his big breakthrough failed to materialize in Bochum at the age of 19, with only four brief appearances in the second division.
Baack is a key player in Verl – and still unbeaten against RWE
Tom Baack has been playing for SC Verl since 2021 and has made 107 third division appearances during that time. He seems to particularly enjoy playing against the biggest club in his hometown. That’s because Baack is still unbeaten in direct duels against Rot-Weiss Essen. His record: four games, two wins, two draws, 10:3 goals. The 25-year-old still has a contract with the sports club until the end of the season.
