The Bezirksliga club Turngemeinde Essen-West presented nine new players during the winter break.
Dietmar Krause, coach of Turngemeinde Essen-West, had already said before the turn of the year with regard to potential new additions: “We always have good guys in training. Many come from the University of Duisburg-Essen. Players come to Essen to study and want to play soccer. We are lucky that our facility is so convenient and close to the university. Little gems keep coming to training.”
And, lo and behold, in January 2024, the Essen district league team presented no fewer than nine new players, including two students.
In addition to Mert Aslaner, Yunus Bucuka (both Alemannia Essen), Eldor Gashi (ESC Rellinghausen), Onur Caparlar (RuWa Dellwig), Maruan El Machichi (Marokko Herne), Youssef Kar oumat (Rot-Weiß Mülheim) and Nahom Zewolde (Duisburger SV 1900), the gymnastics club also announced the signing of students Paul Wernz (Heidelberg) and Ayyoub Hachlouf.
26 points after 18 games and a twelve-point lead over the relegation places: those in charge at Turngemeinde Essen-West can look back on a very successful first half of the season. As a reminder, the Tgd. is a promoted team.
In the second half of the season, the club from Haedenkampstraße wants to quickly secure its place in the league and plan for the new season. Some of the nine new players are already being considered for next summer and the 2024/2025 season.
“We want to quickly secure our place in the league and then work with our sports director Dennis Discher, who is doing an excellent job, on the future squad. We have already started this in the winter,” says Krause, who a few days ago also gave his approval for the 2024/2025 season. This also applies to his assistant Torsten Hartmann.
The Turngemeinde Essen-West gymnastics club will not be competing for league points again in the District League, Group 6, in the Lower Rhine region until February 18 (Sunday, 1:30 p.m.). Then SuS Haarzopf will come to the Haedenkampstraße for the Essen derby. Haarzopf is in fifth place and has six more points than the Turngemeinde.
