ETB signs last Rot-Weiss Essen U19 captain

The upheaval at ETB SW Essen continues – now the 15th addition has been presented. He last played for the strong U19 team of Rot-Weiss Essen.

Almost everything is new at ETB SW Essen. Before the start of the Oberliga Niederrhein, the club from the south of Essen has presented its 15th addition – with eleven departures. A major upheaval.

As is often the case, ETB found what they were looking for in their own city. Central midfielder Guiliano Zimmerling was signed from the city rivals. Until the end of the last season, Zimmerling captained the strong U19s of Rot-Weiss Essen after moving to Hafenstraße from BVB in 2016.

Zimmerling made 13 appearances for the U19s (one goal, four assists). He also made five appearances for the regional league team in the Niederrheinpokal, where he scored two goals and provided one assist. His contract was not extended in the summer, but he has now signed with ETB.

He will wear the ETB jersey for the first time at the dress rehearsal for the Oberliga season against TuS Ennepetal next Sunday (3pm, Uhlenkrug). After his signing, the talent emphasised: “The overall package at ETB convinced me, as did the way they planned with me and the prospects they showed me. There is mutual trust on both sides. We have a relatively young squad, but one that is hungry and wants to compete at the top. It would be great if we could reach the top 5 next season.”

ETB coach Damian Apfeld knows the quality he is getting, knowing the player from his own past with the current third division club: “I know Guiliano from my time at RWE, where I coached him in his first U19 year. I’m delighted that I can now accompany him on his first stop at senior level. Due to his excellent technique and very creative way of playing, our quality in the offensive game will increase significantly. In addition, we at ETB are underlining once again that our club is a very good address for young, hungry and talented players. We can convince players like Guiliano of ETB. That’s good and we can be proud of that. That should also be our path in the future. “
