Ex-Bochum player Danny Blum trains with second-division club

After leaving Cyprus, Danny Blum, who played for VfL Bochum until last summer, is training with a second-division club. He has been under contract there before.

In recent weeks, Danny Blum has already been linked with a move to his former club 1. FC Nürnberg. Now the return is becoming more concrete: The 32-year-old is auditioning for coach Markus Weinzierl’s team this week and can recommend himself for a signing until the end of the week. The FCN made the announcement on Tuesday morning.

“There are two reasons why Danny will train with us,” explained Nuremberg sporting director Dieter Hecking. “Firstly, he wants to keep fit, and secondly, it gives us the opportunity to observe him closely for a week. Whether we will also sign him in the end or not depends on various factors.”

Blum moved to APOEL Nicosia in Cyprus last summer after three years with VfL Bochum. However, his time with the league leaders there is already over. A few days ago, Blum terminated his contract on the Mediterranean island.

In Nuremberg, he could be the sought-after reinforcement for the offensive wing. After a mixed first half of the second division (17 games, 19 points, 11th place), including a change of coach, the “Clubber” have already made some changes this winter.

After Benjamin Goller, Florian Flick, Jannes Horn, Peter Vindahl and Jermain Nischalke, Blum could become the sixth new arrival. Blum already wore the jersey of Mittelfranken between 2016 and 2018. In 46 games, he scored eight goals and set up ten goals. What should make another move to FCN even more attractive for him is that his 20-year-old brother Shawn has been under contract there since last summer and plays in the second team.
