He still scored at will at VfL Bochum. After a demotion at Hansa Rostock, Lukas Hinterseer is now returning to Austria.
Nowhere was Lukas Hinterseer as successful as at VfL Bochum. The Austrian scored 35 competitive goals for the then second division club between 2017 and 2019. His subsequent move to Hamburger SV was supposed to be a step forward: However, Hinterseer would never be able to match his performances at Castroper Straße while at Bochum.
After spells at HSV, South Korea, Hannover 96 and Hansa Rostock, where he was demoted to the Regionalliga team during the last relegation season, the 33-year-old returned to his native Austria on Friday.
“The anticipation is huge. Coming home is always a nice feeling and it makes me really happy that things have now worked out with WSG. Here’s to a successful time together,” said Hinterseer about his move to the Austrian Bundesliga.
Stefan Köck (Manager Sport) said about the signing of the 13-time international: “I am very happy that we have gained a top fit leading player for our WSG Tirol in Lukas Hinterseer. In addition to his outstanding athletic qualities and experience, Lukas also has a strong mentality.”
Head coach Philipp Semlic added: “I am very happy that we have managed to convince Lukas of our WSG path. Lukas not only has footballing qualities, but also fits in very well with our project thanks to his down-to-earth attitude and his roots in Tyrol. With his experience and leadership qualities, he will help our young players enormously so that we can achieve our goals together.”
