Thanks to Kai Pröger, FC Hansa Rostock beat 1. FC Magdeburg 3:1. The former Essen player contributed two goals.
Kai Pröger is currently in top form. The former Essen player was also in top form in FC Hansa Rostock’s 3:1 victory over 1. FC Magdeburg, coached by ex-RWE coach Christian Titz. The attacking player contributed the first two goals. The third goal of the day was also scored by a player who is well known in the Ruhr area: former Duisburg player Lukas Fröde. The follow-up goal by Magdeburg’s top striker Baris Atik in the fourth minute of injury time ultimately came far too late to have any chance of victory.
The native of Wilhelmshaven was already on the scoresheet in the 2-1 win against Arminia Bielefeld (matchday 3) and the 2-0 win against FC St. Pauli (matchday 5). In addition, Pröger has now prepared three goals and is now one of the best scorers in the 2nd Bundesliga. Only Paderborn’s Felix Platte (ten scorer points) and Düsseldorf’s Dawid Kownacki (eight scorer points) are currently ahead of him.
Pröger had played for Rot-Weiss Essen in the Regionalliga West between July 2017 and January 2019, and from there made the jump to the 2nd Bundesliga to SC Paderborn, with whom he even achieved promotion to the Bundesliga. Until then, he had only made two brief appearances for the second team of FSV Mainz 05. Last summer, Pröger moved from SC Paderborn to FC Hansa Rostock, where he signed a two-year contract.
In the other matches on Saturday lunchtime, Arminia Bielefeld defeated Holstein Kiel 4-2 in a dramatic match. SV Darmstadt won at home against 1. FC Nürnberg with a commanding 2-0 score. In the evening, Hamburger SV will meet Fortuna Düsseldorf against their ex-coach Daniel Thioune, whose contract, which expires at the end of the season, will not be renewed for the time being.
