At least in the next few years, 1860 München will be able to plan for a return of former international Kevin Volland. That is, if the club wants him to.
The youth department of TSV 1860 München has already produced one or two jewels. These include, for example, the Bender twins and Julian Weigl. Another player, who has also played for the German national team, wants to finish his career with the Munich Lions: Kevin Volland. He revealed this in an interview with AZ.
“It’s no secret that I like 1860 a lot and have a lot to thank them for,” the newspaper quoted the 15-time international, who held a place in Germany’s European Championship squad last year. “In any case, I would like to play for a few more years. You know: I am very close to home and like Munich.”
However, the native of Marktoberdorf would like to see the club from Munich-Giesing leave the 3rd division for the top. “It wouldn’t be bad if they were promoted one day, I’ll keep my fingers crossed for that.”
At the moment, Munich’s chances of promotion are not that bad: coach Michael Köllner’s team, in sixth place, is currently one point behind second place in the relegation places and only three points behind second-placed 1. FC Saarbrücken. It should be added, however, that the situation would be much better if Köllner’s eleven had not made such a mess of the end of the Hinserie with one point from four games.
For Volland, in any case, there is only one factor standing in the way of a return: “But then they have to want me too, I’m not getting any younger.”
Volland was under contract with 1860 Munich from 2007 to 2012 before leaving for Hoffenheim. Via Leverkusen, his path led him to AS Monaco, where he has been under contract since September 2020. The attacker has played six games for the Monegasques this season (two goals, two assists). Between August and October, Volland was out of action with an ankle injury.
